April 25, 2010: Please write to the Governor
Hello Everyone,Brandon's last and final appeal was denied on April 12, 2010. He has exhausted his legal options. Thanks to the Governor's intervention, Brandon will now have a chance for parole but not for another 10 years. And a hearing is no guarantee of release. If he is denied parole at that time, he could wait from 3 to 15 years for his second opportunity (at the parole board's discretion).
We will never give up our fight to win his freedom!
Brandon was sentenced as a result of a misapplication of The Felony Murder Rule. At age 18 he was involved in a spontaneous, backyard brawl. As of May 23, 2010, he will have been in incarcerated for 15 years even though he did not have a weapon and did not kill anyone. Fifteen years is as much time, and in many cases more, than inmates whose actions intentionally and directly resulted in the death of another.
Please write to Governor Schwarzenegger!
We are starting a letter writing campaign to Governor Schwarzenegger, asking him to fully commute Brandon's sentence and set him free before the Governor leaves office in January 2011.
The "How to Write to the Governor" page on this website is being updated to provide background, instructions and letter templates to help you get started. Until the revised page is complete, you can send us an email and we will send you a pdf with the instructions (freebh@brandonhein.com).
Our Heartfelt Thanks and Warmest Regards,
Brandon, His Entire Family, and His Extended Family of Friends and Supporters

Mr. and Mrs. Hein,
I just watched the documentary Reckless Indifference and I would like to express my heartfelt condolence to you and Brandon. The miscarriage of justice that has occurred in this circumstance shocks me. The prosecution's capricious application of the felony murder rule is disgusting. I hope this wrong will soon be righted.
Regards,
Ron
i just watched reckless and my Dear Friend I have a 14 year old and I am in shock speechless’ and disgusted at this system at the same time afraid for my son to come out of the house this could happen to any and every kid . My god I feel so bad and helpless how can we help this is crazy this Youngman has been 15 year in prison and for what how can this prosecutors, ,judge and juries sleeps at night because if they did not know now they do.
Mr. and Mrs. Hein-
I am showing "Reckless Indifference" to my Seniors in order to illustrate the unjust juvenille justice system in American. I have written CA's new GOV. Jerry Brown as well as CNN MSNBC and even FOX. I am apalled at the obvious bias and ignorance the State of CA has shown in Brandon's, and many other's cases. and will post a letter to the Attorney General of the United States. What has the ACLU done for you?
My best-
B.S. Thompson
