May 15, 2010 Never Give Up

Hello Everyone,

So many of you have joined our letter writing campaign to the Governor. Thank you. Some of you have received photocopied rejection letters as we have. Please keep writing.

On May 23, Brandon will have been incarcerated for 15 long years. Every appeal has been denied. The word "no" has been the answer almost every time in spite of the many thousands of people in the US and around the world who are appalled by this injustice.

We continue because:
> We love Brandon. If he can endure this terrible journey, then we can.
> A "no" can become a "yes" if we persist and pray that hearts are opened.
> Each person who stands with us brings their passion, skills, ideas and connections.

Together we will open the prison doors and set Brandon free.

Warmest regards,
Gene and Janice Hein

I am a Social Studies teacher in NY and use the movie "Reckless Indifference" to teach about the 8th Amendment. I was wondering, since the Supreme Court addresses cruel and unusual punishment and teens in a decision last week, can this at all apply to Brandon? Can his case and the felony murder rule be heard in the Supreme Court?
