Jan 3, 2011 Gov. Schwarzenegger leaves office

Hello Everyone,

As you have probably heard by now, Arnold Schwarzenegger left office today. He did not make any further reductions in Brandon's sentence or any other sentences for this case. This in spite of a tremendous outpouring of cards and letters of support and hard work by those close to the case.

While we are disappointed in the Governor's decision, we are grateful for what he did do on Brandon's behalf. Our efforts during his last term resulted in the removal of the "without parole" portion of Brandon's sentence and that is a very big deal. Something we can all feel proud of and take comfort in.

Brandon will be 34 years old in February. We will never give up our fight to win his freedom. Thank you so much for taking this journey with us. We couldn't do it without you.

Please stay tuned for details about a new campaign directed to Governor Brown.

Warmest Regards,
Gene and Janice Hein

It is outrageous that Arnold commuted Esteban Nunez' sentence for the same reason(s) we have relied on for Hein. For shame.

I just watched the documentary on Brandon's case ... I'm outraged but not surpised. The conflicts of interests scream for a new trial in of themselves.

I did post on my facebook page this travesty of American justice for your family.

Keep the faith ... you all know as most of US US Citizens victimed by our system the wheels of justice move way too slow ...

I watched the documentory and have read up on this case. I understand possible bias and different opinions, but the facts don't change. I feel sick to my stomach at the possibility of this kind of manipulation of the american justice system. The fact that Mr. ferris was "maybe" present at the interrogations of the 4 boys is a scary thought.
the unfair trials...
all those appeals to date and all 4 boys are still in jail...
I'm a studnet in Canada, if i were in any other condition to help I would.
Good luck Brandon and others

I saw the documentary over the summer in a class I took at Fresno State. It made me extremely upset! I just remembered my teacher telling us that there was currently an appeal going on for Brandon's case, I instantly got the on computer and googled the case.

I had an idea for a way to get more people aware, and I wasn't sure if it had been done yet but making a Facebook might have a big impact. I searched to see if there was one, and I couldn't find one so i wanted to share the idea with someone!

I truly hope that justice is done in the end, for all the boys. I will continue to show my support in my everyday life and try to become more active in the cause.

Mr. & Mrs. Hein,
I'm 17 years old and we watched a movie on your son. I now want to go to college and find a job in the legal system and help get your son out, and help prevent this from happening again.
In my Criminology class, we've been in it for 3 weeks, and already I can tell all the things wrong with this case. It is unjust. I am so sorry your family has to endure this.
I have you in my prayers, and am doing all I can to help.
Much love.

I just watched the documentary, Reckless Indifference, on Netflix. I am absolutely appalled by, what I perceive to be, the gross miscarriage of justice in this case.

There are so many points I could make regarding this horrible case, as seen through this documentary, but the one that was most incredible was the epilogue.

How in God's name could this happen??? How can it be that the courts would allow this "demanded impunity" for this coward and then use it as an argument in court? ...as if her were putting himself in harms way for "telling on himself"?

How those people live with themselves day to day is far beyond my apparently limited comprehension. I simply cannot believe, for the life of me, why a new trial or hearing wasn't granted on that fact alone.

I was simply stunned after watching this and I hope and pray that Brandon will soon see the light of day outside those walls.

I feel horrible for the tragic losses that all these families have endured and continue to endure. But is it necessary to perpetuate the misery? Honestly? Isn't that acting on emotion rather than justice?

I do not know how I can help but I would like to. I do not have money but perhaps there are other ways. I invite your correspondence.

I have posted the 60 Minutes story on my FaceBook page and will also post your site.

I honestly wish you, and all the families, the greatest of strength and hope.

I watched the documentary and am sickened by all of it. I think you have a much better chance with Gov. Brown. And of course the Judge or the prosecutors have never face charges for their criminal acts in this case. God Bless Brandon and his family.

Keep fighting, keep praying for Brandon and many others who are in prison for the wrong reasons. I understand the Ferris family is upset but it does not bring their son back I'm sorry to say. Life for a life accomplishes NOTHING. If there's any petitions I will sign it. I hope Brandon can salvage some of his young life. Thoughts and prayers.
